Don't re-enter a burning building

Inquest finds Doctor died trying to fight house fire

An inquest has returned that Sir Don Beaven died after he attempted to fight a fire in his Banks Peninsula house with a garden hose. The fire started in faulty electrical equipment in his bedroom, and quickly engulfed the house. The Fire Service located Sir Don in the house after the fire, with a garden hose he had taken in with him.

This reinforces the Fire Service message of "Get out, Stay out". If you are going to attempt to fight a fire, make sure you have been correctly trained, have the correct equipment, and do not take risks.

Never re-enter a burning building, and know when it is not safe to stay.
